Apparently there was a Mexican Independence Day 9/11 issue in 2010, but the media coverage was limited and all I can get is Google caches of the articles. I should like to find more details on that. It does seem odd to schedule a celebration of Mexican Independence on a day which would normally focus on American patriotism. I can't imagine the city was unaware that this might be found offensive. What kinds of scheduling issues were there? Is this a regular thing? What were some thoughts from the council?

In December 2010, a Steve L. Lowe slated to run against Jesse in the upcoming election, appeared before the council appealing a citation for litter in his yard. Jesse M. Luera was present and voted, along with the others present, to deny the petition. He is cited as having stated: "we can't make exceptions. Can you clean up this stuff? We spend lots of money on property maintenance. We can’t have 150,000 people doing whatever they want to."

Notably voted in 2009 against raising water fees.

During 9-Feb-2011 debate, Luera indicated a need to get more efficient cars, develop the tank farm into jobs, hold off on raising taxes, and possibly find federal funds to help address the problem of pan handlers and unlicensed vendors.
