Jeremy Lewis Friedbaum
Jeremy Lewis Friedbaum is running as a Republican candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in the November 2018 Election, Utah.
In a debate between the U.S. Senate candidates, he gave an explanation for why he would refuse to fund Planned Parenthood. He was critical of Mitt Romney, partially because of his opposition to Trump. Criticized Mitt Romney for "treating Tea Party Republicans like they had cooties" during his presidential race and for not being bold in defending his faith, and for endorsing Bob Bennett over Mike Lee. Stated "the globalist pipe dream of free trade makes about as much sense economically as the hippie pipe dream of free love makes sense morally. Before the tragic passing of the 16th amendment, America got 80% of its revenue from tariffs." Supports a policy of using tariffs to punish/reward nations for behaving ethically/unethically. Asserted that he would vote much more like Mike Lee than like Orrin Hatch. When asked about specific national defense issues, he spoke on the importance of the second amendment and the need to turn to God.[1][2]
On the 10th of April, 2018, he published critique on his Facebook page of Mitt Romney, focusing on a car accident Romney was in (as the driver) in which his Mission President's wife was killed. This post was widely criticized by both pro-Romney and anti-Romney commenters.[3]
He ran for the U.S. Senate in 2012 and was defeated. He was a candidate for governor in 2000, and a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998.
His declaration of candidacy shows that he is using the convention route, and includes a statement that SB 54 undermines free elections.
