Here's a letter I wrote to candidates for the 5 March 2013 election in Norwalk, California

Letter

I am a resident of Norwalk and blogger looking to learn more about the candidates we will be choosing between in the March 2013 election. I plan to share the responses I receive on my website, voterguide.theshtick.org

What inspires you to seek a City Council seat?

What responsibility you see individual citizens as having in promoting their own welfare, and the welfare of society, and what kinds of limitations you see to that responsibility?

How do you think City Council Members can act as a check against abuse of power by the judicial and executive branches of government at their level?

Who Was Emailed

One other candidate had dropped out of the race, and another's email address could not be found.

Who Responded

Darryl Rodney Adams

After helping Leonard Shryock win a seat in 2011, I regularly attended the City Council meetings and became increasingly frustrated by the lack of vision and coalition building. I think I can be a strong leader, a consensus builder and I have a strong work ethic and traditionally I have been known as a good listener.

It is important that we all have the opportunity and responsibility to take care of ourselves. The government should assist us, not lead us by the hand. Freedom is a very precious gift, and only when we work together are we able to accomplish what is needed on the individual rights and collective responsibilities.

If you mean the Supreme Court and the office of the Presidency, the local congresswoman (Sanchez) and our Senators (Feinstein and Boxer) are our watchdogs to minimize the overstepping/abuse of their rights. Perhaps, our best ammunition is the ability to arm ourselves with knowledge and comprehension. ON a local level, communication is important and accountability is high..We vote , we inform, we question and we challenge. We are only as strong as we allow ourselves to be.

I hope this helps and I am willing to answer more questions..
